A career development program for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander screen workers

About the program

Screenworks’ Project Break Through will provide tangible career development opportunities for four emerging and early-career Indigenous filmmakers, digital artists and screen practitioners by matching selected participants with relevant screen industry professionals.

Industry professionals will assist the selected participants to identify their career progression potential and will work with them to assist them to achieve clearly identified career development outcomes. The screen industry professionals will travel to meet the selected participants in their own community.

Screenworks with support from North Coast TAFE will also work with the program participants to help establish creative collaborations that can successfully deliver small projects to support career development eg a micro documentary, a stills porfolio, a short film.

This outcome focused program will help build capacity and confidence in local ATSI screen industry workers; meet an identified need for Indigenous screen producers in Australia; and provide a unique opportunity for individuals to be supported on the development of their own projects.

Four Indigenous Northern Rivers emerging filmmakers, digital artists and/or screen practitioners will be selected through an application process. The screen industry professionals for the program will be selected to match each participant’s requirements, based on the relevance to their skills, career interests and potential.

Project Break Through is open to all areas of the screen industry, including but not exclusively: screenwriters, producers, camera, gaffers, sound technicians, art department including wardrobe, set design, costume design, hair and makeup, post production including editors, visual FX and sound editing.

It is expected that each industry professional will meet with their participant approximately once a month over a period of 4 months.
