Karenza Ebejer

About

Karenza Ebejer has a passion for digital storytelling with a keen interest in working in the community sector.

Since completing her Post Graduate Diploma in Film and TV at QUT in Brisbane in 2000, Karenza has written, directed and produced numerous short films, many which have had national festival success.
In 2001, her short drama “On Cue” came Runner-Up in the Brisbane International Film Festival’s Fast Film Competition. She went on to receive an award for “Most Original Script” for the same film at the Queensland New Filmmakers Awards in 2002.

In 2003, Karenza was given a New Filmmakers Award at Wildspaces National Human Rights Film Festival for her documentary on an Afghani asylum seeker “Portrait of Sakhi.” This short documentary is now being distributed by Magic Lantern Productions in India where it continues to be screened at human rights film festivals due to its ongoing relevance.

Karenza has also collaborated as a filmmaker with dancers and performance groups in Brisbane adding a multimedia element to live performance.

As well as producing her own work, Karenza has been a Video Production Mentor for youth and community groups in Brisbane [supported by Queensland Health and Brisbane City Council] and Indigenous youth for “Croc Fest” in Far North Queensland and Alice Springs [supported by the Federal Government].

In 2003, Karenza developed the business “Moving Image Media” to offer a range of services from community and educational video production and editing to filmmaking mentorship for groups. She is always on the lookout for interesting stories that reflect life both in local communities and the wider culture.
