Introducing our volunteers: Julia Chant
Julia Chant has been working as a volunteer with Screenworks since February. You may have met her on the registration desk at an event, or spoken to her on the phone. Julia is generally in Screenworks office every 2nd Wednesday for 1/2 a day.
Julia has a background in dance and theatre performance however, having recently completed her Business Diploma and Cert IV in Screen Media, she is now keen to pursue a career in the screen industry as a production manager.
Julia’s work history includes Hip Hop dancing in Paris with a dance group called “Combat”, a cast member in West Side Story performing in Sydney then Melbourne, a founding member of the Meryl Tankard Dance Theatre company taking performances across Australia and Japan. Julia then went on to establish theLynx Dance Theatre Company in Mullumbimby, where she directed and performed.
Recently she made a short fictional drama called “Now or Never” which was inspired by her sons decision, to join the Australian Armed Forces. Her next project is a feature film called Sam’s Story also inspired by a true story about a young mans struggle upon his return from a tour in Afghanistan.
“This is an important Australian story that needs to be told,” explained Julia “and I feel very passionate about telling it. It is a tribute to a very special man Sam.
