A public forum and 2 day workshop on the craft of directing for film and television

Applications are now open for screen directors living in Northern NSW to attend a 2 day intensive to further develop their craft.

A public forum event will be held in Byron Bay on Friday June 17.  The 2 day workshop will be held at Linnaeus Estate on Saturday June 18 and Sunday June 19.

About the program

Screenworks, in partnership with the Australian Directors Guild and Linnaeus Estate Education fund, is offering Northern NSW based directors an opportunity to connect with professional screen directors and to receive directing advice on their projects with the aim to assist them improve on their craft.

Up to 10 directors will be selected by an independent assessor panel to participate in the 2 day workshop.

The professional screen directors involved in the project will be specifically selected to best meet the needs of the participants. With the support of the Australian Directors Guild we will have access to Australia’s best directors.

Please note: this is not a residential intensive, selected participants will be expect to make their own way to and from Lineaus Estate and the public forum in Byron Bay. Some catering will be provided at the 2 day intensive.

Public Forum

In the public forum event the selected top Australian screen directors will present samples of their work and talk about their practice.

Eligibility and assessment criteria

To be eligible to apply for the two day intensive opportunity you must be:

  • A director with at least one directing screen credit on a production that has been broadcast on free-to-air television or screened at a curated film festival or online and attracted more than one million views.
  • Living in regional Northern NSW
  • Available to attend a public forum and a 2 day workshop in the Byron region June 17 – 19
  • Have a current project that you are developing or working on
  • Have accurately and completely filled in the online application form

Applications will be assessed by Screenworks, The Australian Directors Guild and an independent panel. Details of the independent panel will be made available at the time we announce the selected participants.

Screenworks Directing Intensive is part of a professional development program designed to address career pathways and skills development for regional filmmakers.
