Special Guest bios
Katrina Irawati Graham, WIFT, Vice President
Katrina is the Vice-President of Women in Film and Television NSW (WIFT NSW). She was instrumental in bringing together women filmmakers across the country to form WIFT Australia, a national advocacy body for gender parity and representation of women in the Australian screen industry. She is the Queensland board member for WIFT Australia. Katrina is an award-winning writer and director as well as an emerging playwright. Her play, Siti Rubiyah, is slated for development with Contemporary Asian Australian Performance (CAAP) in Carriageworks later this year and she is currently participating in Playlab’s Incubator program. She celebrates her Indonesian-Australian heritage and champions representations of diversity.
Karolina Berkell-Kirk, WIFT
Karolina has worked in the screen industry for the past 10 years. Since her graduation in 2008 from Napier University/Screen Academy Scotland with a BA in Film & Photography, she has acquired a broad spectrum of experience and knowledge ranging from the art department to production. After her first film industry job at London’s reputable post-production studio Molinare (The King’s Speech, Ex Machina, Tour de France) Karolina quickly realised that her heart was on set and in production.
Since 2012 she has been producing short content with her first short film Home Invasion, being screened at Cannes Court Métrage. With solid background knowledge in production from projects like the Swedish 2017 Christmas hit All Inclusive and Location Managing for Warner Bros. on Sweden’s annual Christmas children’s TV-show, she continues to refine her skill set. Her latest Croatian/Slovenian/Swedish co-production Into the blue has had an immensely successful festival run with its premiere and special mention at Berlinale 2017, with official selections at TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) and Aspen, as well as winning 20 awards internationally. Furthermore, the film was in the running in the Live Action Shorts category for the Oscars 2018.
Karolina is currently developing her slate consisting of: a Swedish/Australian music documentary in VR – Sweden’s largest folk music festival Bingsjöstämman (key collaborators Cutting Edge), a TV- supernatural/drama series set in an existing prison in Brisbane (writer Simon Kennedy – SBS, Safe Harbour), a period drama short about the Kanakas people in 1904s Brisbane and a children’s TV-drama series stemming from an illustrated series of books, set in and around a Brisbane urban garden.
As well as raising her two young children, Karolina continues to have an active presence in the steering committee of WIFT Australia (Women in Film and TV) and developing and producing engaging, thought provoking and entertaining content. Stay tuned for her next project!
Lucy Fisher, WIFT, Secretary
Lucy has been the Festival Director of the Gold Coast Film Festival – the city’s flagship film and screen culture event – since June 2015. In three years she has more than doubled ticket sales, tripled cash sponsorship and introduced a raft of innovative initiatives to support women working in the screen industry at the Gold Coast Film Festival, including the first free childcare offering at a film festival in Australia in 2016 and a commitment to ensuring gender parity across all speakers and panelists during the festival.
Lucy is on the Executive Committee of Women In Film And Television NSW.
Prior to the film festival, Lucy spent 11 years working on public relations strategies for some of the world’s leading tourist attractions and major events in Australia and the UK, including Madame Tussaud.
Ester Harding
Development Executive, Screen Australia
Ester Harding is a film and television producer, with credits across drama, documentary and multiplatform content. She joined Screen Australia as a Development Executive in July 2018.
Most recently, for See Pictures, she co-produced feature comedy Swinging Safari, for writer/director Stephan Elliott (The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert) (2018), and is the producer of Remembering Agatha for writer/director/artist Emma Magenta (The Gradual Demise of Philippa Finch), which premiered at the Adelaide Film Festival, was selected for Flickerfest and was later broadcast (ABC) (2018). She also served as production executive on the feature adaptation of Tim Winton’s novel, Breath, for director and star Simon Baker.

J’aimee Skippon-Volke, BBFF’s Festival Director
With a working history in Event Management and Pre, Post & Production for Film and TV in London, New York and Sydney, and has held various freelancing positions in production support for music videos, corporate, charity, documentary and drama productions.
More recently in partnership with Osvaldo Alfaro at GreenhouseFX, J’aimee has been exploring and developing concepts for immersive VR experiences utilising the Oculus Rift. J’aimee blends her experience, interests and passions as the Byron Bay International Film Festival Director.
