With a view to increasing the skills of the many filmmakers, cinematographers and camera operators living in the Northern Rivers, Screenworks has partnered with the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) to bring the multi award winning cinematographer Ellery Ryan ACS (Is This The Real World, I Love You Too) to the region. He will run his popular 2 day Modern Cinematography Masterclass at the Brunswick Picture House on November 23rd and 24th.

Ellery has worked on feature films, commercials and television for more than 30 years and in 2016 was inducted into the Australian Cinematographers Society Hall of Fame. Drawing upon his extensive experience, Ellery will lead attendees through the theory of visual storytelling reinforced by inspirational clips and practical exercises.

“Cinematography is such a vital skill in visual story telling,” explained Screenworks General Manager Ken Crouch. “We are really looking forward to giving our local filmmakers the opportunity to get advice and tuition from such a skilled and respected industry professional.”

Liz Hughes, Director Partnerships and Development at AFTRS said “AFTRS is pleased to be partnering with Screenworks to offer one of our popular cinematography workshops to story-tellers in Northern NSW. Following our drone cinematography workshop last year, it’s great to be playing a role in Screenworks’ creative and dynamic screen community, and we look forward to seeing more regional landscapes on our screens.

This course would suit filmmakers wanting to learn how to interpret a drama script and develop cinematic style or film enthusiasts wanting to learn more about the language of filmmaking.

Modern Cinematography Masterclass is a ticketed event and will be held over two days at the Brunswick Picture House on Thursday November 23 and Friday November 24.
