Wendy Champagne is an Australian/Canadian filmmaker, writer and freelance journalist currently living in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales. Wendy has lived and worked on five continents, following stories of real people that aim to deepen our understanding of human and women’s issues around the world. She draws on an academic background in psychology and writing, incurable curiosity, and trust in the intrinsic value of each individual to add to the story of our shared history.
Wendy has written and directed feature documentaries – BAS! Beyond the Red Light was sold internationally and toured festivals winning prizes including the NFB (National Film Board) Colin Low award for the Most Innovative Canadian documentary of 2010 and the Los Angeles Women’s Film Festival Best Documentary Prize of 2011. Love Under Cuban Skies was the most viewed documentary on CBC TV and online in 2014. She has written and directed numerous radio documentaries, her journalism has appeared in major publications, including The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian Financial Review, Maclean’s, Canada’s National Post and Mindfood and she is currently writing a podcast and TV series.
