Set for success

SUPPORTING REGIONAL CREW TO STEP UP INTO SENIOR CREW POSITIONS  WITH THE HELP OF TRAINED AND EXPERIENCED MENTORS.

Set for Success is a Screenworks initiative designed to build the capacity of skilled below-the-line practitioners in regional Australia. It is financed with the assistance of Screen Australia and will be delivered in association with Creative Plus Business.

Skills gap shortages across Australia have been pushing crew members into more senior crew roles before they are sufficiently trained. There is a recognised need for mentoring,  guidance and onset training to support crew and build their confidence as they step up to work in their new roles on set. Screenworks’ Set for Success program will help increase the number of skilled crew across the country by training and up skilling regional practitioners.

Screenworks Set for Success is a practical on-set training program that taps into the skills and industry knowledge of accomplished senior crew and HODs,  engaging them as mentors for crew that are training into more senior roles.

Screenworks Set for Success will work with some of Australia’s top production companies to provide opportunities for regional crew to step into more senior,  much-needed crew roles under the guidance of experienced mentors.

HOW IT WORKS:

  • We will work with Production Companies to identify the relevant crew roles they need to fill on their upcoming productions.
  • We will use our extensive networks and connections to attract regional crew who can be mentored in the identified,  more senior crew roles.
  • We will continue to build up a cohort of highly regarded and accomplished HODs and senior crew to be trained as mentors.
  • Each mentor will be engaged, paid and trained by Screenworks.
  • Mentors will be matched with the regional crew member who has been selected to step up into a more senior role on set.
  • Training the crew member to succeed in their new role will take 2 weeks (1 in pre, 1 during the first week of shooting). Mentors will then be available for phone or email support for up to 4 weeks.

If you are a regionally based crew member ready to step up into a new role, or an experienced HOD and keen to become a mentor or a production company with a shoot coming up and want to talk about upskilling a regional crew member,  please email [email protected] for more information.
