The Opportunity
The Director Pathway Program 2026 gives two early-career directors from regional NSW tailored opportunities to develop their skills, expand their networks, and fast-track their screen industry careers.
With the support of Screen NSW, this annual program enables participating directors to craft personalised career plans, with a $3,500 investment from Screenworks to help turn their professional ambitions into reality.
How It Works
Interested applicants will need to submit a detailed career plan, outlining proposed career advancing activities to the value of $3500 (excluding GST).
This may include:
- Training or professional development courses (e.g., screen directing courses)
- Attendance at conferences, events, or markets
- Industry memberships or subscriptions
The two successful applicants will receive:
- $3,500 to support their bespoke career development plan
- Registration to Screenworks’ 2026 Regional to Global Screen Forum
- Consultation with a representative from the Australian Director’s Guild to support with career advice and industry introductions
Who Can Apply?
- Early-career directors from regional NSW
- Open to all genres, including TV drama, documentary, and children’s television
- Suitable for directors committed to growing their professional skills and advancing their careers
Selection Criteria
Applicants will be assessed on:
- The effectiveness of the proposed Career Plan to build relevant industry skills and overcome career barriers while achieving future creative and career goals.
- The skills, achievements, experience, and track record of the applicant, including the quality of previous work.
- The potential of the applicant to contribute to and enhance the growth of screen production in regional NSW.

- CV/resume
- 12-Month Career Plan – download and complete the template then upload it with your application
- Sample of your work (optional but recommended – provide an online video link)
- Proof of regional residency (e.g., driver’s licence, proof of age card)
