Update: Friday 1 April 2022
On behalf of the Northern Rivers community and our local screen community who have been through so much over the past few weeks, we would like to say a massive thank you to NSW Arts Minister, Ben Franklin MP, Create NSW and Screen NSW for this week’s announcement that $70,000 will be provided to Screenworks to deliver micro-grants of up to $5,000 to support screen practitioners that have been impacted in flood-affected areas.
This will be combined with the $15k+ that Screenworks has raised in donations for our Flood Recovery Fund, which has already been getting distributed to people impacted by flooding and supporting people in our region to get back on their feet by providing much-needed replacement of tools and equipment.
Thank you to all of you for supporting our region during this time.
How to make an application to the Flood Recovery Fund:
Applications for support of up to $5,000 are invited from screen practitioners and businesses in the Northern Rivers area who need support to replace essential equipment, tools or materials, that have been lost as a result of the floods and affect the screen practitioner’s ability to generate income.
To apply, you will need to complete the online application form and provide quotations for the replacement cost (including any delivery charges), along with any photos of the damage to equipment from the floods, any receipts of prior purchases or other documentation that supports the claim.
To access the online application, go to https://www.questionpro.com/t/AU9cNZreLS
Get support for loss of income:
The Australian Government’s Disaster Recovery Allowance (DRA) provides support if you’ve lost income as a direct result of the floods in NSW in 2022. Under this scheme, you have until 29 September 2022 to make a claim. DRA is a short term payment to help you if a disaster directly affects your income.

Donate to support those impacted by the floods:
The Northern Rivers region has just experienced some of its worst floods in recorded history. Across the region, we are hearing from people who have lost everything and we know that some of those people are friends and colleagues who work in the screen industry.
Screenworks is currently raising funds to help screen practitioners and businesses in the Northern Rivers region who have been impacted by the floods. All donations received under this cause will be used solely towards helping people and businesses in our local industry.
100% of funds raised through this Screenworks GiveNow Cause will support screen practitioners and businesses that have been impacted by the floods.
All donations over $2 are tax-deductible.
Previous update: 06 March 2022
Screenworks has announced an initial call for applications from screen practitioners and businesses in the Northern Rivers who need support to replace essential equipment, tools or materials, that have been lost as a result of the floods and affects your ability to generate income (that were otherwise not insured).
This is an initial round of funding to start getting some support to people in our industry as soon as possible, we understand that we will not be able to cover everything that people have lost during these floods. But we hope that it helps to cover things that insurance companies and other financial support packages won’t cover.
Screenworks has also committed to supporting all applicants to access funding from financial packages announced by the government and non-government agencies. All applicants will also receive a free 12-month Screenworks membership (either new or renewal).
We also encourage people to support the following campaigns in our region:
- Koori Mail’s Bundjalung Community Flood Relief – https://www.gofundme.com/f/bundjalung-community-flood-relief
- Arts Northern Rivers’ Flood Recovery – https://www.pozible.com/project/flood-recovery
If you prefer to make a donation that more broadly supports people in the Northern Rivers who have been impacted by these floods (including those outside our industry), we recommend making a donation to GIVIT NSW Flood Appeal, NSW State Emergency Service or the Australian Red Cross QLD and NSW Floods Appeal.
For those that have been impacted, please get in contact with our CEO Ken Crouch ([email protected]). We will provide more information and open applications soon for those who have been impacted.
Thank you for all of your support.
