9th Arakwal NAIDOC Week Screening 2016

The Arakwal Corporation, Flickerfest & iQ are thrilled to present two inspiring aboriginal short films selected from the finalists of Flickerfest 2016, local short ‘Nan And A Whole Lot Of Trouble’ & ‘Under Skin In Blood’; plus the acclaimed feature ‘SPEAR’ directed by Bangarra Dance Theatres artistic director & choreographer Stephen Page. This outstanding film is produced by John Harvey and stars Hunter Page-Lochard & Aaron Pedersen.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with ‘SPEAR’ producer John Harvey & Flickerfest director Bronwyn Kidd.

Acclaimed Artistic Director and Choreographer Stephen Page brings Bangarra Dance Theatre’s outstanding dance work SPEAR to the screen. Striking and original, Page weaves story through dance to deliver an extraordinary cinematic experience in his feature film debut.
Using gesture and dance, with minimal dialogue, SPEAR follows a young Aboriginal man named Djali (Hunter Page-Lochard) from the outback to the streets of Sydney on his quest to understand what it means to be a man with ancient traditions in a modern world.
Featuring brilliant Bangarra dancers and an evocative David Page score that combines traditional and contemporary music, SPEAR is an intimate journey with one of Australia’s most celebrated artists and one of the most affecting and spiritually resonant films of the year.

John Harvey
John HarveyJohn is a writer, director and producer. He’s produced several short dramas including: The Farm; The Hunter; The Oysterman for broadcast on ABC TV and the chapter Sand for the feature film The Turning. He has written and directed the documentaries: Light From The Shadows (Artscape ABC TV); Menny and the Bundaroos(ABC TV) and short documentary Upi Mop Le: The Last Fish. John has produced over 14 theatrical productions for presentation at major festivals and venues across the country. John studied screenwriting and producing at AFTRS and was Awarded the AV Myer Award for Exceptional Indigenous Talent in 2011. He was also a participant in Screen Australia’s Indigenous Producer’s Initiative. He is currently a producer intern with Robert Connolly at Arenamedia.
