A one day workshop giving a unique behind the scenes look at how the novel Lambs of God was adapted into a TV series.
The author, the screenwriter and the producer for the recently created TV series will each talk about their roles and their processes for adapting the book to the screen.
Marele Day’s popular novel Lambs of God was optioned by Lingo Pictures and the producer Jason Stephens commissioned award-winning screenwriter Sarah Lambert to write the screenplay.
In this workshop the Sarah Lambert will talk about how she adapted the novel into a story for the screen, author Marele Day will talk about her experience and involvement in the adaptation and Jason Stephens will give the production company’s perspective on the process of optioning and adapting and what they are looking for from an adaptation. Lingo Pictures has also recently optioned Michael Robotham’s, The Secrets She Keeps which is currently in production as a 6 part series for the Ten Network.

Marele Day’s four-book Claudia Valentine series won her a Ned Kelly Lifetime Achievement Award for crime writing. Her bestselling literary novel, Lambs of God, was published to international acclaim. This was followed by Mrs Cook: The Real and Imagined Life of the Captain’s Wife, and The Sea Bed. Marele is a highly experienced teacher and mentor and had served as a judge for literary competitions including the Vogel Awards and NSW Premier’s Literary Awards.
Award-winning writer and producer Sarah Lambert works extensively in Australia, the US and UK. She is the creator, writer and a producer of Love Child, the smash-hit Australian drama. The first series was the number one drama in Australia in 2014 and ran four seasons.
She is the writer/show-runner of the highly anticipated drama series, LAMBS OF GOD for the Foxtel network starring Emmy winner Ann Dowd (Handmaid’s Tale), Jessica Barden (End of the F***ing World), Essie Davis (Babadook) and Sam Reid (Prime Suspect 1973). It was recently selected for the official competition of Series Mania and will premiere in Australia in July of 2019.
Over her career, Sarah has written on some of Australia’s top drama series including the award-winning Love My Way; two seasons of the Emmy-nominated series Dance Academy, for which she was nominated for an AWGIE for Best Children’s Screenplay; The Alice, which garnered her a QLD Premier’s Literary Award Nomination; Foxtel’s A Place to Call Home and ABC’s ratings winner The Doctor Blake Mysteries.
Sarah is currently writing a crime thriller, Traces for Revolver and Porchlight and an adaptation of the best-selling book, The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart for Made-Up Stories.
Jason Stephens is the Creative Director and Co-Owner, Lingo Pictures. Jason is the Producer of Upright, an 8-part production for Foxtel and Sky UK starring Tim Minchin, which is currently in post-production. Recently, Jason produced Lambs of God, a four-hour mini-series starring Emmy Award-winner Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale), Essie Davis, Jessica Barden, and Sam Reid. The series is for Foxtel and had its world premiere in the Official Competition of Series Mania 2019.
Under the Lingo Pictures banner, Jason has executive produced: On the Ropes (SBS), a boxing drama starring Keisha Castle-Hughes and Nicole Chamoun; the Network 10 mini-series Wake in Fright starring Sean Keenan and David Wenham (7 AACTA nominations (2 wins); 2 Logie nominations and a Silver World Medal at the 2018 New York TV Festival); and will executive produce the upcoming series The Secrets She Keeps for Network 10.
Jason also produced five television dramas between 2010 and 2014 under a joint venture with FremantleMedia: Killing Time (Foxtel); Devils Dust (ABC); Mr and Mrs Murder (Ten); and Better Man (SBS). As well as producing these shows, Jason was Director of Development at FremantleMedia from 2006 and Creative Director from 2010.
