The Fear of Darkness
followed by an audience Q & A with Director, Chris Fitchett & Producer Mark Overett.
A brilliant young psychiatrist is forced to confront the dark creature that dwells deep within her own unconscious when she investigates the supernatural disappearance of a university student.
Brisbane based film-makers Chris Fitchett (Blurred, Under The Radar and A Heartbeat Away) and Mark Overett (Iron Sky, Separation City, Unfinished Sky) teamed up to make this gripping psychological thriller, a film that explores one of our most basic fears.
The Fear of Darkness is due for national release in September this year. It has screened at the Gold Coast Film Festival and been selected for Official Competition at the FilmQuest Film Festival in Salt Lake City, Utah. This is an exclusive pre release screening.
The Fear of Darkness has attracted a stellar Australian cast featuring Maeve Dermody (Griff the Invisible, Black Water), Penelope Mitchell (The Vampire Diaries, Hemlock Grove), Aaron Pedersen (Mystery Road), Damien Garvey (Rake) and Mark Leonard Winter (Van Diemen’s Land) along with a strong Queensland-based supporting cast led by Christopher Sommers (The Water Diviner, Unfinished Sky).
Chris and Mark will be at the screening to talk about the making of the film and to answer questions from the audience.

Biographies:
Chris Fitchett
Chris Fitchett has an honors degree in Psychology from Melbourne University and is an AFI award-winning Writer/Director and Script Editor/Producer. He has also had many years experience as a development and production executive for state and federal government film funding agencies including Project Manager/Deputy Director of Film Victoria, CEO of the Commercial Television Production Fund, and Chief Executive of the Australian Film Commission. In these positions he was involved in financing the Academy Award-winning films Shine and Harvey Krumpet, and international successes Muriel’s Wedding, Romper Stomper, Love Serenade, The Heartbreak Kid and Samson & Delilah.
As a writer he wrote three of the early episodes of Crawford Productions’ police drama Cop Shop and co-wrote Cassandra, the first feature film produced by Beyond International and distributed by Virgin Films (UK).
His first feature film as Writer/Director was Blood Money (1980), a 16mm feature film starring John Flaus and Bryan Brown which was released theatrically in Australia by GL Film Distributors and screened nationally on Network Ten. Internationally it sold to 19 territories including the USA, UK, Italy, Spain, Norway, Mexico and Sweden. His second feature film was Desolation Angels (1982) a low budget 35mm feature film produced in 1982 and starring Kerry Mack. Worldwide rights for this film were acquired by Home Media Entertainment (USA).
Mark Overett
Mark Overett is the founder of New Holland Pictures Two, a feature film production company established in 2012. Prior to this, Mark was one of the managing directors of New Holland Pictures – a multi-award winning production company. Mark has worked around the world as a producer of feature films, as well as factual and light entertainment television. In his early career, Mark co-created “In the Dark” which began on LWT with Julian Clary and rolled out as a format into 30 countries, making it the most successful comedy game show of its time. New Holland Pictures’ first film was “Unfinished Sky”, starring William McInnes and Monique Hendrickx, in 2006.
This film premiered in Toronto and won 6 AFI Awards, 4 Inside Film Awards and 4 Critics’ Circle of Australia Awards as well as many others and resulted in him being awarded SPAA Co-Producer of the Year. The following year, Mark produced the bittersweet Kiwi comedy “Separation City”, starring Joel Edgerton, Rhona Mitra, Danielle Cormack and Thomas Kretschmann, which released in NZ in August 2009 and in Australia in March 2010. His most recent film, sci-fi comedy “Iron Sky”, is a Finnish/German/Australian co-production and was acknowledged as being a world leader in crowd funding.
