Taste of the Tropics

Here’s what some of Screenworks’ alumni have to say about the Taste of the Tropics program they participated in.

TAMERA SIMPSON (QLD), Taste of the Tropics, 2023

Tamera is a Cairns local with extensive experience in the screen industry. Most recently, she’s worked on David Attenborough’s Prehistoric Planet and Panorama, both for the BBC, and served as art producer for a Tourism Australia project.

“Being part of Tastes of the Tropics was a great experience. As practitioners, we were supported throughout every part of the process, and as a team we’re very proud of the episode we made.

This initiative has opened new doors for the team. We’ve made new connections and friends along the way, affirming that there is a wealth of talented creators in North Queensland. It was a pleasure to work with them all on this project.”

Ewan Cutler, Taste of the Tropics 2023

Since his first program with Screenworks, Ewan has been busy working on a variety of projects. He’s been part of the filmmaking team behind SISTAS IN MINING, a 30mins documentary made as part of the Curious Australia initiative, and which aired on NITV in 2023, and has worked as a shooter-producer on OUR MEDICINE, currently in post-production and set to air on SBS next year.

“Thanks to Screenworks, I’ve levelled up in my career and garnered some great credits. Authentic kicked it all off back in 2021. Screenworks also connected me with my working partner, Shontell Ketchell. We have an invaluable professional relationship, and have worked on just about everything together. The opportunities Screenworks have given me have been life-changing.”
