A one day online intensive presented by Screenworks, in partnership with the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS).

Friday May 29

9:30am – 5pm

Are you an early career producer, filmmaker or production manager and need to get your head around budgeting for your screen project?

Screenworks are proudly partnering with AFTRS in order to bring this practical budgeting workshop to early career screen practitioners in regional, rural and remote Australia.

Budgeting Fundamentals Intensive will introduce participants to the basic Excel A – Z budget template and cover what you need in order to produce an initial work in progress budget. You will learn the skills required to do a basic budget, which can be applied to a variety of projects.

Using specific production examples, award-winning Screen Producer Bridget Callow-Wright will take you through the basics of breaking down a treatment for a budget, as well as cover the following:

  • The difference between above-the-line and below-the-line costings
  • Creating a workable schedule and demonstrating how a production schedule effects the budget (and visa versa)
  • Funding productions – an introduction to the Producer Offset, obtaining the right quotes from suppliers and where to source rates for different crews and performers

Who should take this course:

  • Early career screen producers and filmmakers who are developing a screen project and need to do an initial budget as part of a pitch, funding application or similar
  • Those wanting to understand how budgets work so you can properly brief a production manager to prepare a full budget for you.

Budgeting Fundamentals Intensive will be delivered via Zoom, an online learning environment – so you can take this course from the comfort of your own home or workspace. All you need is internet access.

Participants will be required to do some preparatory work prior to the course and contribute in the online environment.
