Artstate is a new four year project by Regional Arts NSW designed to shine a light on excellence in regional arts practice.
Lismore is the first host city for Artstate and from 30 November to 3 December there will be an exciting two day program of speakers exploring the themes of creative practice and creative partnerships. Wrapping around this will be a multi-genre arts program featuring the amazing creatives from the north coast of NSW.

Screen Masterclass: Putting Virtual Reality into Arts Practice

For the first time this year, Create NSW offered funding to artists and cultural practitioners to develop virtual reality (VR) work. At this session, regional NSW based VR practitioners, J’aimee Skippon-Volke and Ossie Alfaro will reveal how they use VR technology to create an immersive experience. They will explore a range of examples of how it can be put in to practice across different art forms to create unique experiences.

Createability is an annual Screenworks initiative that provides funded opportunities for professional filmmakers living in Regional NSW to profile artists with disability living and creating in their communities. Each 3 – 7 minute short documentary gives the viewer an up-close encounter with each of the artists, showcasing their creative talents and the important role that art plays in their day-to-day lives.
Screenworks warmly invites you to a very special launch screening event of the Createability 2017 films. Our eight films for this year will be screened alongside several films from 2015 and 2016. Some filmmakers and profiled artists will also be in attendance.

When Screenworks lost its Commonwealth funding in 2015, it faced an uncertain future and was forced to change its ‘business as usual’ approach. Two years on, it has now tripled its revenue and membership base thanks predominantly to new strategic partnerships and the support of a business mentor. In this session, we will look at how partnerships and practical business approaches to arts, screen and cultural projects and arts organisations can lead to success, strengthen long-term potential and provide some freedom from funding applications and acquittals.
